Utilizing precisely chosen clips from Kazan's signature films including "On the Waterfront," "A Streetcar Named Desire," "Gentleman's Agreement," "Baby Doll," "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn," "A Face in the Crowd," "America, America," and "The Last Tycoon," and interview footage of the director himself, co-directors Scorsese and Kent Jones recount the director's tumultuous journey from the Group Theatre to the Hollywood A-list to the thicket of the blacklist. 马丁·斯科塞斯真是拍纪录片拍上瘾了，加之他本身也是个迷影人，有关电影的纪录片也是拍了不少。这个只有1个小时的纪录片则是他对伊利亚·卡赞的认识，可以看出卡赞对他的影响之大。可惜之前只看过几部卡赞拍的黑色电影，对这个纪录片中提到的那几部电影了解不多，看来有必要花时间先看看。

即使他在道德人性上并没有银幕上那般光辉，但依然要义无反顾地赞赏他在电影史上留下的“黑色电影”之光，真该好好补补“卡赞这一课了。
